Proper Use of Spa Chemicals

Who wouldn’t want a hot spa as a part of their household? Unfortunately, owning one will entail a good deal of maintenance if you want to keep it performing at maximum capacity. Something that should be of particular note is the water's chemical content, which should be monitored to ensure that the tub stays bacteria-free. Upon the purchase and setup of your hot tub for the first time, the instructions will explain how to use the right amount of spa chemicals to keep your tub operating at peak efficiency. You should drain the tub every three to four months for scheduled cleaning and you’ll have to re-administer the chemicals that you use as well. Keeping track of which ones is, needless to say, very important. Around half a dozen spa supplies need to be added in the right amounts to get the chemical balance just right, so it would help to keep the instructions for future reference and to ensure that you refer to them if you’re unsure as to the measurements of the chemicals.

At least once a week, you need to test the pH balance, alkalinity, and bromine levels of your tub and you’ll probably end up adding bromine or chlorine in order to keep the levels recommended to keep bacteria away. The Scumballs or Scumbugs will have to be rinsed periodically, too, in order to prevent a scalene ring at your tubs waterline and you will no doubt have to add a variety of other spa chemicals; so, once again, keeping your instructions handy would be a wise idea.

Every once in a while you should ensure that the water filters are clean. Additional items that should remain in the tub while it is unused are your Scumballs or Scumbugs, and if the hot tub comes with an ozonator, you should run this as well for at least three hours a day on low speed.

Some spas keep this going all the time. If you notice during your maintenance that certain spa chemicals are being used faster than others, don’t be alarmed as this is entirely normal and be sure to stock up on the most used spa supplies. To this end, it would be advisable to shop around for the best deals on spa chemicals, of which there are a surprising number on the internet. Spending a small amount of time searching around on the internet could save you a much larger amount of time that you would spend running around your city looking for good deals on chemicals and you will save a lot of money on your spa maintenance to boot. Make sure to find a company to do business with that will help you if you have problems with your spa care. Make sure the company has employees that know spas well and can answer your questions on water care.
